Deepavali Glitters

Tekka is known as 'Little India' of Singapore. Deepavali is an annual colourful event in Little India. Every year the streets are beautifully decorated to welcome the festival of light. You almost can get everything you need to celebrate this festival here and they are reasonably priced.

Tekka during Deepavali season is a heaven for photographers. The colours are pretty vibrant!
We visited Tekka last weekend to feel the festive mood and for light shopping.

Below are my photo compilation of Deepavali glitters in Tekka.

'Dangling Moons"

As we started loving DIY nowadays, Loga and I came up with an idea to make our Capiz shells chandelier for the dining room. As we are in the midst of surveying wholesalers list to purchase raw shells in bulk, we thought of using white mahjong paper to make a sample set just to get some idea the number of shells needed to make the chandelier.
Capiz Chandelier.
In what i initially thought is not going be nice with mahjong papers turned out to be really beautiful. Persistently loga helped to complete the project :)

Dangling Moons
I think we spent around $10 for this entire piece of art.

 All you need are :

1) White Mahjong - cut into circular shapes ($1.70 for one role). We used around 300 pcs.

2) White strings - used to connect the circular shape papers as shown in the photo above. ($0.80)

3) Double sided tape - To sandwich 2 number of circular shape papers onto the string. ($1.00)

4) Rings - to tie at the end of strings ($1.60 for 2 boxes. You might need more than that.)

5) The frame for the chandelier - $2.00

6) Bulp, wyre & connector - $3.00

Loga is doing some electrical connection before we could enjoy .........

Will share the photos soon once the capiz shell chandelier is made.. :)

Eggless Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

I made this simple chocolate cake over the weekend. The steps are super simple that anyone without  baking experience will be able to bake this.

There are many versions of eggless chocolate cake recipes but this particular recipe which i can't remember where the source is one of  my favourite. Preparation time is around 10 minutes and you need to spend another 20 to 30 minutes to bake this in oven. You will be surprised with the taste of this simple cake.  When i first baked it and post the photo in facebook, it was such a hit. I received many requests for this recipe.

So, here we go with eggless chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. Go ahead, try this recipe and surprise your loved ones.

How i Made

Ingredients

For the cake

Plain flour..........................160g

Condensed milk.................260g

Baking powder....................1&1/2 tea spoon

Cocoa powder.....................40g

Butter..................................100g

Vanilla essence.................1/2 tea spoon

Milk..................................200ml

For frosting

1. Cream cheese.................. 200 ml

2. Milk...................................100 ml

3. Icing sugar.........................3 table spoon

Method

1. Sieve flour, cocoa powder and baking powder.

2. In a separate bowl, beat butter, condensed milk and vanilla essence.

3. Mix (1) into (2) and add milk.

4. Finally, bake at 180 C for 20 to 30 minutes.

(Insert tooth pick at the centre of the cake to check if the cake is done. If the tooth pick comes out clean, the cake is ready)

5. For frosting, beat cream cheese, milk and sugar to a creamy paste.

6. Once the cake is completely cooled, have fun decorating the cake with frosting.

7. If you are conscious of those extra calories, just eat plain. It tastes great!

'Lalang Arts'

For the vegetarian cook books shooting, i plucked some 'Lalang' flowers from my work place as an accessory. After taking photos of the books, then came the turn of those lovely 'lalang' flowers. Never really noticed how beautiful and feminine they are all these while :)

Lalang flowers are so gentle, ethereal and has calming effect, seriously!

Check them out, the lovely lalangs!

They make such a beautiful and inexpensive table top decoration which can last pretty long.
